Privacy policy

Weather Light ("the app") shows the weather where you are and doubles as a flashlight. This document states exactly which data the app collects, why, and where it goes.

No account, no personal identification

There is no sign-up, login, username, email or password, and the app has no server of its own. No name, email, phone number or any identifying detail is collected.

Location

The app asks for location access while in use only, to fetch the weather where you are. The coordinates go to Apple Weather, the weather service of Apple, and nowhere else; they are never stored on any server of the app. The place name is resolved on the device by Apple. Without location permission there is no weather, but the flashlight works.

Weather and radar

Forecasts, alerts and weather data come from Apple Weather under the Apple privacy policy. The radar image comes from RainViewer: the device downloads public map tiles without sending a precise location, only the area shown on the map, as any map does.

The flashlight

The flashlight uses the camera flash only, with no access to photos and no capture. No camera permission is needed.

The widget and the lock screen

The last weather fetched is stored on the device, in a space shared between the app and its widget, so the widget and the lock screen can show it. It never leaves the device.

Advertising

The app is free and funded by a banner and an app-open ad served through Google AdMob. Ads are served without personalization: the app does not request tracking permission and does not use the advertising identifier for profiling. Google may collect basic usage data under the Google privacy policy. A one-time "Remove ads" purchase removes the ads; the purchase goes through Apple and the app never sees payment details.

Preferences

Language, temperature unit, appearance and the lock screen switch are stored on the device only. Deleting the app deletes them.

Deleting your data

Delete the app from the device. The preferences and the saved weather go with it. The app holds no accounts, passwords, emails, contacts or payment details, and has no server, so there is nothing to delete beyond the device itself. The "Remove ads" purchase record stays with Apple, in your Apple account, so you can restore it; the app keeps no copy of it.

A forecast is an estimate. Before a decision that depends on the weather, such as a hike, a flight or a sail, check your local meteorological service too.
